Mexican Medical Ministries was founded in 1966 for the purpose of providing medical care for the people in the San Quintin Valley of Baja California Norte, Mexico. A national doctor and nurse began this work that progressed from a Quonset hut to the present thirty bed hospital. Today eleven facilities are operational.

Mexican Medical has grown into one of the largest Christian medical missions in Mexico. This rapid growth has created an increased responsibility for the provision of quality medical care at a low cost. One-fourth of all medical services are provided at no cost to the recipients. To make this feasible, efforts are concentrated on providing these medical facilities with as much medical equipment and supplies as is possible.

Services:

Health Care services are provided through hospitals, clinics and free mobile clinics which travel to remote areas. Evangelism is extended through Vacation Bible Schools, film, and door-to-door ministries, Bibles studies and support of local churches. Short-term, cross cultural mission opportunities ranging from one or more days are available to medical professionals, youth groups and lay people. (MediShare Part B)

Volunteers:

The majority of the ministry's work is accomplished through volunteers including physicians, nurses, dentists and other health professionals, construction specialists, concerned lay people and interested youth. In 1997, more than 2,000 people served in this capacity.

Locations:

Hospital and clinics are located in communities across Baja California, such as Tijuana, Tecate, San Quintin, Vizcaino, Mexicali, San Felipe, La Purisima, Cabo San Lucas, and Palenque.

Statistics:

In 1997 over 45,000 patients were treated, 3,000 major surgeries conducted and 2,500 babies delivered. The Gospel was presented to an estimated 30,000 people with over 70 churches participating in cross cultural Caravan's excursions.

Funding:

Faith support from churches and private individuals provides the sustenance for day-to-day operations and special projects. Mexican Medical is an interdenominational, nonprofit 501(3)(c) organization, incorporated in California and is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability.
